The Rare Disease Foundation is comprised of parents, caregivers and clinicians who are united in their desire to change the world of rare disease care. We work together to see that more research goes into rare disease, and through our Parent to Parent Resource Networks we band together to share resources and navigate the world of rare disease care together.
This Month's Topic:
Guest Speaker -Dr. Paul Thiessen
"How to Work Effectively with your Pediatrician"
Dr. Thiessen is a consultant general pediatrician in a group practice with a strong interest in newborn medicine and children with special needs. He was the Medical Director of the Intermediate Nursery at BC Women’s Hospital from 1996 to 2012, during which time he was instrumental in establishing the Fir module dedicated to the combined care of mothers and their infants with substance use problems. He was medical director of the Spinal Cord Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital for over 2 decades, retiring from this role in 2016. He has a longstanding interest in medical education and international health, and is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at UBC. He is on the Executive of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Pediatric Society. He is married with 3 married children and 4 grandchildren.
